What this blog is about

This blog is a record of my spiritual journey in an attempt to love the Lord my God with all my heart, all my soul, and particularly with ALL MY MIND.

I am horrendously annoyed at how many people fail to use the brain that they were given at birth. I recognize that not everyone is intellectually gifted. I know that I am not particularly physically gifted. Tales are told that will live on in history of my first attempts at throwing a ball. It was catastrophic. It was a brilliant display of how to be super clumsy.

In other views, it looked something like this:

My posts will not be short. Likely, the minimum length of any first draft is going to be 1000 words. With editing and review, they will likely grow to 2000 words. This blog is NOT for light easy reading. It is for you to seriously and critically grapple with the message of Scripture as it contextualizes in our contemporary society.

My credentials? I have none aside from a lifetime of growing up in the Church and being unsatisfied with the answers that my Sunday School teachers were giving me. Strangely, it did not turn me away from the church, but my intellectual journey has brought me closer and closer to Christ. I took two classes in seminary at Wycliffe College University of Toronto in History of Christianity and Introduction to Missions Theology. But really, I was just paying the institution 1000s of dollars to do something that I could do on my own time.

That is not to say I think I know much.  I make sure to run my drafts through other people for critique and review. Often posted drafts are "publishable" but not complete. If you come back to a post in a week, you may find that it has grown, changed, or fundamentally established a different premise. I will avoid doing this as much as possible. Likely, I will instead write a new post and then add a link to the new post that talks about a specific topic more in depth.

You will find that I am majorly irreverent in my posts. It is because, for the most part, I am trying to be as skeptical as possible to see if by accident on purpose I lose my faith. Faith doesn't come without a price. Untested faith is worthless faith, similar to a child believing in Santa Claus without thinking about it too much. My faith is very dear to me. Without my faith, I lose my moral anchor. Without my faith, I lose all incentive to be a decent human being. Without my faith, I fundamentally become an entirely different person.

So this blog is me taking my faith and putting it on the alter to be sacrificed, bloodily and irrationally, trusting that God will leave a ram in the bushes and provide the sacrifice. (Genesis 22:13) I am certain that at the end of this I will declare Jehovah Jirah, blessed be the Name of the LORD! (Genesis 22:14)

May the storms and consequences of my irreverence come! May this journey into skepticism declare that even with a skeptical eye, the truth declares itself, for even the stones will cry out. (Luke 19:40)

For in the end, every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. (Philippian 2:9-10)

It is my prayer that you come to this realization before it is too late.  It is my hope that in this journey, I reflect your journey and can travel with you through skepticism to the comforting light of faith in the One True God.
